Membership Pause Policy for Woodstock Recreation Center
Purpose of the Policy
Membership pauses are intended to support members during extended, unavoidable absences such as medical issues or seasonal travel. They are not designed for short trips, vacations, or intermittent use. This ensures fairness to all members, supports stable program funding, and keeps membership rates affordable for the community.
Eligibility for Pausing a Membership
Members may request a temporary pause under the following circumstances:
- Medical Emergency or Health-Related Leave — A pause may be granted when a member is unable to use the facility due to injury, surgery, or a medically documented condition.
- Seasonal Absence — A pause may be granted when a member leaves the area for an extended, continuous period (e.g., the full winter or summer season).
Short-term travel, vacations, or occasional time away do not qualify for a membership pause.
Limits on Pause Frequency and Duration
- Members may pause their membership up to two times per calendar year.
- Each pause must be for a minimum of one full month.
Code of Conduct & Facility Use Policy
To ensure a safe, respectful, and enjoyable environment for all participants, the following rules must be followed at all times while using the Woodstock Recreation Center (WRC) and its surrounding grounds.
Drugs, Alcohol, Tobacco, and Weapons
- The use of tobacco or marijuana is strictly prohibited in the Center and on its grounds.
- Absolutely no drugs, alcoholic beverages, controlled substances, drug paraphernalia, or weapons are permitted in the Center or surrounding areas.
- Any individual suspected by staff of being under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or controlled substances, or suspected of possessing drug paraphernalia or a weapon, may have their privileges revoked at the discretion of WRC staff.
- Anyone found in possession of drugs, alcohol, controlled substances, drug paraphernalia, or weapons will be immediately reported to law enforcement and prohibited from further use of the facility.
Respect for Personal Space
- The facility is intended primarily for exercise. Please be mindful of others’ focus and space.
- Do not initiate conversations with individuals wearing headphones.
- All members and guests must respect the rights and comfort of others at all times.
- Behavior that makes other gym members feel uncomfortable will not be tolerated.
Equipment Courtesy & Gym Etiquette
- Do Not Linger on Equipment
- Weight equipment is communal property.
- Do not sit on machines between sets for extended periods.
- Avoid sitting on equipment while reading or using your cell phone.
Unload Your Weight Bar
- After finishing with a barbell, remove all weight plates.
- Do not assume others can lift or remove the weight you have used.
- This rule applies to all weights, including lighter plates.
Return Weights to Proper Locations
- Replace all weight plates and dumbbells on their designated racks after use.
Clean Equipment After Use
- Wipe down benches and machines after use to maintain cleanliness and hygiene.
Avoid Slamming Weights
- Excessive slamming of weights and disruptive behavior is considered disrespectful.
- Lift within your limits and maintain control of equipment at all times.
Safety First
- Do not attempt to lift more weight than you can safely handle.
- Always prioritize proper form and personal safety.
- Members are responsible for ensuring their actions do not create unsafe conditions for others.
Enforcement
The Woodstock Recreation Center reserves the right to revoke facility privileges for any individual who fails to follow these rules.
