Zero Tolerance Policy — Sportsmanship Is Our Goal
The Upper Valley Recreation Association (UVRA) has agreed that there will be
zero tolerance for fan misbehavior at all sporting events. This includes, but is not limited to, booing, shouting at officials, arguing calls, or directing negative comments, threats, or obscene gestures toward players, coaches, or officials.
Positive cheering and support for both teams is highly encouraged. Ours is a recreational league, with fun and a positive experience for our youth as the primary emphasis. Many of our officials and coaches are volunteers, and we should all appreciate their efforts, support them, and set a good example for the children.
Spectator Misconduct
Any spectator who does not behave appropriately will be addressed according to the following steps:
- The official(s) will identify the violator to the coaches, or the coaches may identify the behavior to the official(s).
- The official(s) will confer with both coaches. One of the coaches will then approach the spectator and may issue a warning or ask the spectator to leave.
- If the spectator is not recognized by either coach, the home team coach will speak with the spectator.
- If the decision is made for the spectator to leave, play will not resume until the spectator has left the facility.
- If the spectator refuses to leave, his/her team will forfeit the game, and the game will be over.
Parent/Coach Conduct
The same standard of respect applies to interactions between parents and coaches
during practices, games, or any other team-related activity. Inappropriate, disrespectful, confrontational, threatening, or disruptive behavior toward a coach—or behavior that makes the coaching role unnecessarily difficult—will not be tolerated.
Depending on the severity and frequency of the behavior, consequences may include:
- A warning or direct conversation with the parent/guardian.
- Removal of the parent/guardian from the practice or playing area.
- Suspension or restriction from attending practices or games.
- Continued or serious misconduct may result in complete removal of the parent/guardian from team activities.
- If the behavior persists or significantly impacts the team, the player's participation on the team may also be terminated.
Our volunteer coaches give their time to provide positive opportunities for our youth. Parents and guardians are expected to support them, communicate respectfully, and allow them to do their jobs without unnecessary interference or conflict.
