Pool Heater Policy
POOL HEATER POLICY
Purpose To maintain a safe, healthy, and cost-effective aquatic environment for all members and programs.
Policy
The pool heater is set to 80°F and will remain locked at this temperature. Staff are not permitted to adjust the thermostat.
Why 80°F Is Required
- Safety for Swimmers Water warmer than 80°F increases the risk of overheating, dehydration, and elevated heart rates for lap swimmers and fitness users.
- Chemical Stability Higher temperatures break down chlorine faster and encourage algae growth, requiring significantly more chemicals to keep the pool safe and clear.
- Energy & Water Conservation Heating a large commercial pool above 80°F causes rapid evaporation, forcing the system to constantly replace water and use more energy.
Exceptions
No exceptions are permitted unless approved directly by the Executive Director.
